Never done it but I've heard it is mostly dirt access roads. Hopefully someone that has done it can chime in and verify.

I did that race last year as the Sport race. It was 18 miles and nothing like what I had thought it would be. At the beginning of each lap there is about a 1-1.5 mile climb, now I had to do this 3 times because of the sport race. Then it stays pretty flat for a few miles then turns downhill. It would have been a really good downhill but since the ENTIRE race is on gravel roads it's hard to get up to a good speed. I personally didn't like the race so much although I do well in the race.

The course has a lot of climbing and some fun downhill sections. None of it is singletrack but the dirt doubletrack is twisty in places, there is almost no gravel ,and a couple stream crossings. It is the least technical race I have done, if you can climb you will do well. The race is very low key , with few racers and a good chance of placing. Most of the racers are from the Calloway Fitness Series and are not mountain bike racers, if you are a decent sport class racer you could easily win expert based on my experience the last three years.

A cross bike would work well except for the stream crossing (some years the course bypasses the stream). If it has rained recently the stream is about a foot deep with rocks that you can't see, you might want to dismount.

My 7 year old son and I are signed up. Haven't been racing much this year due to "life" so I thought this might be a fun race since the family and I had already made plans to camp at Pine Mt. this weekend anyway. This will be my son's first mt. bike race so hopefully this venue will make for a good first experience. Anybody else signed up? I will be racing Sport class and bringing up the rear!!!! 8)

For those doing this race it is a only a short drive west down Hwy 18 to West Point if you have energy left after the race and want to check out our 8 mile loop in R. Shaefer Heard Park.

Just road those trails about a month ago and had a blast! Was telling someone in the parking lot at the end of my ride that you guys have some great trails there! I will definitely be visiting again soon!
