I'm glad Duck posts these pics. Most of the other pics do not do the Snake justice. These do! And by the time you hit this 4 mile section of boulders you have already ridden 25 miles of some pretty rocky trails and climbed 4500'. That is, if you are riding the 34 option. Here is another.

The SCG website is nearly impossible to understand, so I'll ask here:
I see that there is a price increase, but is there morning-of registration? And do they have a cap on number of racers?
It's a great event, and I have unfinished business there after 2009, but it looks like I might have conflicts with other races on a couple of the dates.

Hi Emily,

I am sorry for any confusion on the Snake Page. On-site registration will be $100 for non-money class
and $130 for money class. We do not have a cap on the number of riders.

To help us in our event planning, we encourage our riders to register on-line if possible.
Non-money class registration on Active.com is $85 before Dec. 31, 2009; Afterwards, registration will be $100
Money Class Men > 18 years old, 34Miler $130
Money Class Women > 18 years old, 34Miler $130

Note: The registration cost includes Active.com processing fee.

I hope you can work us into your schedule. Thanks for your support.

I'm thinking about SSing the 17.

Yeah, I know. Gear recommendations for 26" wheels? I was thinking a 22 chain ring & a 34 cog.

Those gold levers are Danger Boys that are on the Spider(Hayes hydros). $70. Above ride is a Motolite. The bike I'll be riding again this time around.

I did the 17 last year SS on a 29er at 32x20, 46.4 gear inches. I also had the slowest time for the SS 17 Mile though.

34x22 would be 40.17 gear inches. You'll hate it at the start, but probably love it by the end. I wished I had a 21 or 22T cog laying around by the end. I'm not a very strong SS-er though. I raced XC-3, and finish way back of the pack on my SS.

I'm gonna run gears this year, which will be different, but I'm assuming a bit less painful on the long climbs.

NWGA SORBA strives to give the best race event for starting your 2010 season.
The Snake is an event for mountain bikers hosted by mountain bikers. We've
received requests for more rocks, more miles, less cramping, more cobbler, etc.
Although we can not accommodate all requests, we have addressed some proposals
at our recent planning meeting.

In addition to awards for fastest time, the race committee has decided to add
awards for the competitors with the lowest cumulative time to complete all three
Snake races for a given distance. You must ride the same distance / route for
all three races. There will be a overall winner for the following:

Non-Money Class Men, 34 mile
Non-Money Class Women, 34 mile
Non-Money Class Men, 17 mile
Non-Money Class Women, 17 mile

For the Money-Class Men and Women's 34Miler, we are also changing the
payouts to include 4th and 5th place.

1st will receive $750
2nd will receive $500
3rd will receive $300
4th will receive $225
5th will receive $130

We look forward to seeing you at 'Snake 2010'.

Very cool, I look forward to the snake every year. My only suggestion for you guys is a better results page.

Darn, I love the results pages. What I don't like is that last 5 miles of boulders and rocks. After those, I'm assuming I won't like the result pages...

The Snake is awesome. I'm hoping to ride all 3 this year.

I think the addition of "overall" awards is great!
