Looking for some recommendations of places to car camp around blue ridge, aska rd. area really. I plan on going up friday riding Bear Creek and Pinhoti's, then other people in the group need to be over near stanley gap saturday morning so the thought was to camp closer to there and ride stanley gap/flat creek saturday morning. However I don't know many places to car camp over that way. Any suggestions are welcome.

There are random camp sites all along Stanley Creek Road and Rock Creek Road. Rich Mountain Road (FS338) may or may not be open. If it is, there are a bunch of sites along it as well. Same for FS259.

These roads are all to the south of Aska Road.

You could also probably park in the lot at either end of the Stanley Gap trail and camp up in the woods a bit too. Same for the Flat Creek Trail lot.

That would all be primitive camping though, no bathrooms or water.

As far as actual campgrounds, I believe there is one on Lake Blue Ridge. If you're heading from Blue Ridge, toward the Aska Trailhead, it's on the right. There should be a sign for it. The boat ramp is on the same road.

Here's a general map of the area. Drag it around :)

It is closed. They shut it down a couple of years ago due to funding issues.

I remember all of the sites being close to the road. Where the Benton MacKaye T's into Stanley Creek Road, there could be some camping back a bit, but you'd have to park near the road and walk back to it. I want to say there's a site maybe 100 yards back from the road on Stanley Creek Road as well, but I can't remember for sure.

It is deer and bear season right now, so some of the sites will certainly be occupied.

I've stayed at Morganton Point before. It is a forest service campground

http://www.recreation.gov/camping/Morga ... ampingSpot

Here is the FS site:
http://fs.usda.gov/wps/portal/!ut/p/_s. ... Campground

It lists it as being closed on Nov. 2 but I think part of it used to be open later.
