I hear its great for single speeds, awesome in general.

so, how do you get there and how far is it from ATL. All I know is that its near Augusta or something like that....

it is....my wife and I in our "advanced age" still follow them around a little. We caught them in Knoxville during a well planned/scheduled work trip last month and always make the shows in ATL. Heading to both the 12/30 and 12/31 shows this year...

Deep Step, Big Rock and Tower. 1st two ccw, tower cw. The 2 new trails (BR and Tower) do not see as much traffic as the other loops. Also it seems that you are either climbing or going down. about 19 miles total.

Refuel at the trailhead and than hit Great Wall, Skinny an Brown Wave ccw my personal favorite is Great Wall.

Also as a reminder it is hunting season and NFS is urging riders to wear orange.

A+ all the way around. Wear orange out there.

The route would be this. Deep Step CCW - Connector Trail - Pavement - Gravel - BR CCW - Tower CW - Finish BR CCW - Gravel - Pavement - Connector Trail (other direction) - finish Deep Step CCW.

Refuel.

Great Wall CCW - Skinny CCW - Brown Wave CCW - Finish Skinny CCW.

That will be about 39 miles total.

Here is a map. Ignore the numbers and the mileage on Big Rock and Tower s/b 4 miles each.

I've seen this several times. Is FATS located on any private or public hunting land?

When riding, i look very un-deer like - particularly in the speed and grace categories, but I've certainly seen dumber things happen and I wouldn't want some hunter to mistake a 6'4 man with a red camelbak, blue helmet, wearing safety orange and riding a bright red GF to mistake me for bambi.

FATS is located on the most popular public lands in our area. It is very close to our biggest population center and hunters like it for the same reason we do - it's close.

It is smart to wear orange in the woods during hunting season no matter what you are doing.

The real reason I wear it is because the hunters appreciate it and it is no sweat off my back.

Not sure how, but I somehow edited rbyoung's post when I tried to reply to it.

Sorry about that. I'd fix it if I knew how.

GATR is going down the following weekend. How would you rate these trails...intermediate, advanced? I am planning on going down in the morning, riding for about 3-4 hours and then heading home. Which trails make the most sense? Appreciate the advice.

FATS in my opinion is intermediate. However the trails can be fast and many riders have bit the dirt. There really isn't any "technical" stuff. The easier trails would be Skinny and Brown Wave, harder trails (do to climbs) would be Deep Step, Tower and Big Rock.

If it's your first time at FATS and you have 3-4 hours I would recommend to park at the south trail head (main lot) and ride Deep Step, Great Wall, Skinny, Brown Wave ccw

If you have four hours, you should be able to easily ride all four. Ride DS, Tower and BR, refuel at the car, then ride GW, Skinny and BW.
