Paulding SORBA Update PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 10 March 2009

We, Paulding SORBA, are at it again and have an exciting year ahead of us.  We've broken ground at Mt.Tabor Park by initiating another Gateway Trails project. This trail network will target our community here in Paulding County and hopefully provide many of you an opportunity to improve the community you inhabit.

We're are starting several initiatives which encompass many facets of giving back.  "Make Your Mark " which describes a
volunteer drive we are hoping to get rolling to aide in the construction of nearly 7 miles of trails to be built at Mt. Tabor. We are hoping that many of you will opt to either ride or hike these trails to increase your fitness, nature hikes, etc. These trails are going to be interpretive for all users alike. We hope to have several fund raisers throughout the summer to aide us in purchasing signage that will describe these trails.

We will beginning another initiative called "Earn-a-Bike" aimed at our kids(12-18 y/o) in the community. The initiative will provide a mountain bike for the kid who performs the most volunteer hours between 3/21/2009 and 12/19/2009. We'll be hosting 1 scheduled trail building gathering monthly on the 3rd Saturday of every month. We plan to host both morning and evening shifts lasting approximately 4 hours per shift. All kids under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult, which doesn't suggest they have to work, merely be present. We are providing "Trail Building Basics " to encourage any and all who choose to come out to educate themselves to shorten the learning curve. We believe that teaching the kids of this community about stewardship and taking ownership of these trails. Hopefully it'll curb the desire to feed into the negativity that is so present in today's society. We will be hosting another large weekend at Sara Babb along with Engage Atlanta and the guys from Westridge Church.

On a final note take the time to look over the "PS Membership " and consider helping us out. Members speak volumes to our local, regional and national politicians. There is truly power in numbers! We need your help to make not just the Mt. Tabor project a success but all the others we have in the pipe.
